CARITAS: Arbeitsschutz 4.0: Ampel-Sensor überwacht Raumluft in Caritas-Werkstatt

"The Airtracker Basic was equally interesting for us. It provides us with information about two things that are very important to us: fine dust pollution and noise levels. In addition, the measurement data can be documented throughout the year and accessed at any time, which is extremely important for certifications or as proof for trade associations, for example". - Dennis Hahn, Group Manager Metal Workshop Caritas Workshops Northern Emsland

In their metal workshop in Papenburg, the Caritas Werkstätten nördliches Emsland produce a wide range of articles related to shipbuilding. Around 75 people with and without handicaps stand at the workbenches. Especially in a workshop for people with disabilities, the employees have a special duty of care with regard to occupational safety, especially with regard to air quality and noise levels at the workplace. Therefore, great attention is paid to innovations in the area of occupational safety, such as the digital prevention system Airtracker Basic.

Since the beginning of 2017, the Airtracker Basic ambient air monitoring system has been continuously monitoring fine dust and noise pollution in the area of the eight manual welding stations and four welding robots equipped with TEKA FILTERCUBE extraction systems. The multi-sensor system in industry 4.0 standard serves the digital prevention at the workplace, i.e. it makes health risks in the hall visible before they become a danger for the employees.
The module with traffic light display hangs from the hall ceiling for all employees to see. It measures the threshold value individually adjustable by the user as well as the preset general dust limit value for the alveolar fraction (a-dust) of 1.25 mg/m³. If these limits are exceeded, the signal lamp switches to yellow or red. The special feature: The device, tested and certified by the ILK (Institute for Air Conditioning and Ventilation Technology), not only sounds the alarm, but can also automatically intervene in connection with actuators such as extraction systems to regulate the situation. If the limit values are exceeded, the filter systems can be controlled fully automatically and - if a frequency converter is used - their performance can be increased or decreased as required.

The Caritas workshop has not yet exceeded any limits during the production process. However, the device does take on an important control function in the production process there. In addition, the measured values can be stored, analyzed and called up at any time as proof for certifications or for professional associations.

Unlike comparable devices, the Airtracker Basic multi-sensor system has, in addition to measuring fine dust and volume, other sensors which are necessary for safe and efficient work and for optimum machine and energy use, such as recording room temperature, humidity, process control and fire detection.
